We are publishing the rules before the result. Interim percentages stay internal. The final numbers will appear here only after the study window closes, the evidence checks pass, and a second reviewer reproduces the analysis.
What we are testing
Each pair tracks the same flight numbers, dates, cabin, passenger count, currency, and Basic Economy setting where both products allow it. A separate hourly observer records the fare without relying on either product’s alert state.
120 matched pairs
Domestic and international flights departing from the United States.
90 to 120 days
The test runs for at least 90 days and can extend to day 120.
250 drop minimum
A definitive headline requires at least 250 qualifying drop episodes.
The main metric
Actionable catch rate is the share of independently observed qualifying price drops that produced a matched decrease alert while the lower fare was still available.
A drop must be at least $25 or 5% of the reference fare, whichever is greater. Multiple emails during one drop still count as one catch.
How we keep the comparison honest
- The itinerary list and replacements are frozen before results are opened.
- A 14-day, 20-pair pilot is excluded from published results.
- Unknown or ambiguous email matches never count as catches.
- Episodes with material observer gaps are excluded and reported.
- At least 20% of qualifying events receive a live evidence check.
- A second reviewer must reproduce the final report from frozen inputs.
Important limitations
No booking or realized savings is assumed. Results apply only to the declared cohort and study window. Google says it emails users when tracked prices change significantly, but it does not publish a general alert schedule. Performance can vary by itinerary and travel date.
